Back again!!

Hi everyone!

Many of the teachers have been at school working on and off this past week.
You can feel the excitement in the building as we all prepare for the upcoming school year.

This will be the last week of updating for this summer. This gives everyone two weeks to finish anything they haven't done yet. How has the time flown by so quickly?

Final summer writing prompt
"What goals do you have for this year?" This can be in relation to any area of your life, it's not limited only to school goals.

Our students continue to work hard on IXL every week. Students, please remember to fill in your IXL Bingo cards for tickets! Mrs Frazier will be collecting them the first week of school.

Have you done summer writing? Bring that in when you come as well!! More tickets to be earned there. As I have said to many teachers over the last few days, reading the writing pieces this summer was great fun for me!

Summer Reading Challenge ends September 9. Keep logging those minutes!!

August is here!!

We have reached August and are well on our way to vacation time!

Are you still reading? Make sure to log those minutes!

IXL is available wherever you can pick up the Internet. Keep it up! More mastery certificates are rolling in each day!

Writing Prompt.
Descriptive writing is an important skill. You paint a picture with your words.
This week, describe someone that inspires you. You can talk about them and their accomplishments or, you can retell a story of the two of you together and explain how that encouraged you.

Have a great week!

PS
If you go to the fair, have a doughboy and fresh lemonade for me!

We've reached the end of July!!

It seems like we just started this journey.

All of our Veazie Summer Learning students are rocking their challenges!

The writing pieces have been fun to read!

The reading challenge is approaching 28,000 minutes read.  Make sure to log those minutes. Everything May 9 - Sept 9 is included.

Another 1,000+ minutes week for Veazie on IXL.

This week's writing prompt is:
Persuade me...
Each year we try to decide what field trips or extra activities should be done. "What one activity should ALWAYS be a part of our year? "

Oh my, it's hot!

Welcome to summer.  For me, this is my FAVORITE time of year!  I love the heat.  I love being able to swim, going to the beach, eating something off the grill or from the ocean, and listening to the outdoor concerts that happen in the town I live in all during the summer.

Writing Journals

I have enjoyed reading the Writing Journals this week.  Veazie Community School is full of talented writers!

The Writing Journal for this week is posted in Google Classroom.  The prompt is an author's choice based on the title I used for today's blog.  Somewhere in the written piece, the sentence "Oh my, it's hot!" needs to appear.  The style of writing is up to each individual.  I hope they have fun with it.

Summer Reading Challenge update

We are logging minutes like crazy!  The school is up above 24,000 minutes read this summer!  Great job everyone!  Please remember that this challenge goes all the way through September 9!

IXL update

We had students practicing EVERY day last week!  Including the weekend days!  That is impressive.

Have a super week everyone!

Writing Journal #3

Hi everyone,
The new writing journal assignment is here.

This week I was very inspired by one of our students. He loves LEGO. I thought that it would be great for all of you to tell me about your favorite toy.

Writing Journal #3
Tell me a sweet memory of something you loved to play with when you were younger
 or...
Describe to me the kind of toy you would design for kids of the future.

I am looking forward to reading all of the wonderful entries.

The writing has been great so far!

Here is an update on how we are all doing for the Summer Learning Experience!

Summer Reading Challenge minutes

As of 1:00PM today, we have logged 22,019 minutes online. Keep logging your minutes and we are here to help you put them in online if you need the help.

IXL

IXL is doing its own summer challenge.  Check out this link for the BINGO card they are hoping students fill out.  https://www.ixl.com/community/IXL-Summer-Bingo.pdf

Writing Journals

I have enjoyed reading the stories that have been sent to me through Google Classroom, brought in on paper, and emailed separately to me.  Keep them coming!  I will be assigning Journal #3 tomorrow.

Keep it up!!

Minutes to win it!!

We have logged 5,201 reading minutes so far.
Let's all make that number grow!

Log in to your account on the Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge page and put in your reading minutes.

Have you read or been read to since May 9th? Those minutes all count!!

For example, if you had a weekly Library class where you read (or were read to) for 30 minutes...log them!

Read to your dog, to your LEGO friends, to your parakeet...anytime anywhere.

We are VEAZIE!
We are PROUD!
We are VIKINGS!

Keep it going!!

Ready....Set....Go!!!

SUMMER BREAK IS HERE!!

We are all happy to have this break!  While we are on break, we can still be learning and earning chances to win some very cool prizes.  Here's how:

IXL.

This is a great way to keep up practice on Math and Language Skills.  Each student has a unique username and password.  You don't even have to keep track of how long you are on, the computer will do that for you!  For every hour that you are logged in to IXL, you will earn one raffle ticket.

Reading

Read to yourself, read to someone else, have someone read to you...it ALL counts!!  Veazie Community School has entered the Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge for the first time, this year!  We will be competing against several schools within Maine as well as others from around the United States!   Just simply use the link on this page, put in your username and password and log those minutes! For every hour that you log reading (or being read to), a raffle ticket will go in to the drawing with YOUR name on it!

Writing

There are two ways to earn tickets here. New assignments will be put here as blog posts and on Google Classroom as assignments. You can either keep a writing journal in hard copy (paper) form or, you can log in to Google Classroom and work on your writing journal there.  To log in to Google Classroom, click the link to the right and look for the + sign in the upper right hand corner next to your email address.  Join the class by using the classroom code.  Our classroom code is i93co4.

You can do this anywhere.  You can do it while you are home, at camp, in the car, or anywhere else you might choose.  The choices are yours!

If you need more help, please email me at tfrazier@veaziecs.org

Happy Summer!!
